Something Fishy’: Opposition Questions VP Dhankhar’s Sudden Resignation

The reason for the resignation was stated to be health, but the opposition has questioned this claim and is linking it to politics.

Opposition questions the government

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that Dhankhar's resignation has come suddenly and without any prior notice. He said, "His health is absolutely fine. This step seems to be politically motivated. The government should tell what is behind his resignation." Kharge indicated that there is something wrong in this matter that the country needs to know.

At the same time, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also said that Dhankhar's health is fine and he is absolutely healthy. In such a situation, health-related reasons are being suspected.

PM’s Tweet Sparked Row

About 15 hours after Dhankhar's resignation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a brief tweet, which further fueled the controversy. Congress Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi said that this tweet of the Prime Minister shows the "political nature of the resignation." He said, "The dignity of the constitutional post should be maintained, but it is clear from this tweet that the resignation has become a political issue."

Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav also did not consider it right to link it to health reasons. He said that if there were really health reasons, then why did no senior BJP leader try to meet him? Yadav said, "This clearly shows that there is 'something fishy' in this matter."

 Impeachment Move Upsets BJP

Analysts believe that the biggest reason behind Dhankhar's resignation is the acceptance of the impeachment motion brought by the opposition in the Rajya Sabha against Justice Yashwant Verma. This motion was related to corruption allegations, and the government wanted to reject it in the Lok Sabha.

Dhankhar's move eclipsed the government's strategy, as it wanted to strengthen its hold on the issue. The Vice President's acceptance of the opposition's proposal weakened the BJP's plan, due to which the party seems to be upset from within.
